How to Find Resellers for Your Software: A Practical Playbook for SaaS Founders
Looking for SaaS to license? Browse live listings or explore products by category. New to the deal structures? Compare licence and white-label types or check a term in the glossary. Quick answer: the best software resellers are businesses that already sell to your customers: agencies, consultants, managed service providers and implementation partners in your niche. Find them among your own customers, in the partner directories of tools your buyers already use, through targeted searches on LinkedIn and in industry communities, and on partner marketplaces such as the LicenseSaaS sales partner network. Make your product easy to resell first, agree the commission and lead protection up front, and help every new reseller close one deal in their first 30 days.
This playbook is for SaaS founders who want a sales channel that doesn't depend on hiring a sales team. It covers who makes a good reseller, where to find them, how to pitch them, what to offer, and how to turn a signed partner into revenue.
What a reseller is (and what it isn't)
"Reseller" is used loosely. Before you recruit, decide which kind of partner you want, because each one needs a different offer.
| Model | What the partner does | How they earn | Works best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Referral partner | Introduces the buyer; you sell and bill | A commission on the deal | The sale is complex or needs your team |
| Reseller | Sells your product under your brand, often bills the customer | A margin or a commission | Buyers want a local or trusted supplier |
| White-label partner | Sells your product under their own brand | Their own price minus your license fee | Agencies building their own product line |
| Affiliate | Sends sign-ups through a link | A small fee per sign-up | Low-priced, self-serve products |

Step 1: Make your software easy to resell
Partners choose the products that are easiest to sell and pay them best. Before you contact anyone, have these ready:
- A margin worth their time. Decide your commission or discount before you recruit. If a partner can't earn a meaningful amount on a typical deal, they won't prioritise you. Our guide to pricing a white-label SaaS license helps you work out the numbers.
- A clear ideal customer. Industry, company size and the problem you solve. Partners need to know exactly who to call.
- A sales kit. A one-page overview, a demo account or video, your pricing, and two or three customer examples.
- Lead protection. Explain how you record a partner's leads and how long an introduction counts (the attribution window), so partners never worry about being cut out of a deal.
- A written agreement. Territory, exclusivity, who handles support, and what happens when the partnership ends. See the guide to SaaS reseller agreements and what to include in a white-label agreement.
Step 2: Seven places to find resellers
1. Your own customers
Agencies, consultants and service firms that already use your product are your warmest prospects. They know it works, and their clients often have the same problem. Ask your happiest business customers one question: "Do your clients deal with this too?"
2. Agencies and consultants in your industry
Search LinkedIn and Google for firms that already sell recurring services to your buyers, for example "[your industry] marketing agency", "[your industry] software consultant" or "[your industry] IT services". Firms with existing retainers can add your product to work they already do.
3. Managed service providers and IT resellers
MSPs and value-added resellers bundle software into their service contracts. They are a strong fit for B2B tools sold to small and mid-sized businesses, especially anything that needs set-up or ongoing support.
4. Partner directories of tools your buyers already use
Many software platforms publish directories of certified implementation partners. If your product connects to a CRM, e-commerce, accounting or marketing platform, the partners listed for that platform already serve your buyers and look for products that make their projects more valuable.
5. Partner marketplaces
A marketplace that connects founders with sales partners saves you the hunt. On LicenseSaaS, approved sales partners browse software listed for licensing and white-labeling and propose to bring buyers to the products that fit their clients. Every listing can receive these proposals, and founders on Growth Engine Pro and Max can also browse the partner directory by industry and region and invite partners to a specific product. Listing your product is free.
6. Buyers who want to white-label
Some of the best resellers start as buyers: agencies looking for software they can rebrand and sell to their own clients. Browse the buyer requests on LicenseSaaS to see who is looking for a product like yours right now.
7. Communities and events
Industry Slack and Discord groups, trade associations and niche conferences are where agency owners compare tools. Join, be useful, and mention your partner program when it's relevant rather than pitching cold.
Step 3: Qualify partners before you sign them
Ten active partners beat a hundred inactive ones. Before you sign, check that the partner:
- sells to your ideal customer today, not "could in future";
- has a sales process (people who sell), not just an audience;
- can name two or three prospects for your product;
- is clear about who handles first-line support;
- has an answer about any competing product they already sell.
Step 4: Pitch resellers the way they buy
Partners care about three things: what they'll earn, whether it fits their clients, and how much effort it takes to sell. Lead with those. A short first message works better than a deck:
Hi {name}, I run {product}, which helps {customer type} {result}. Several of your clients look like our best customers. We're adding a small number of partners in {industry or region}: you'd earn {rate}% of every deal you bring, your introductions are protected for {number} days, and we'll give you a demo account and a sales kit. Worth a 20-minute call to see if it fits your clients?
Step 5: Set the commission and terms
Three structures cover most software partnerships:
- Referral commission: a percentage of the first contract or first year's value.
- Recurring share: a percentage of the customer's payments for as long as they pay, or for a set number of months.
- Reseller discount: the partner buys at a discount, sets their own price and keeps the difference.
To choose a rate, work back from your gross margin and from what it costs you to win a customer directly. A partner commission is a sales cost: if it's lower than your cost of winning the same customer yourself, the channel pays for itself. Start simple, with one rate and one attribution window written down, and adjust after the first few deals.
On LicenseSaaS you set the commission for each product, separately for licensing and white-label deals, and partners can accept your terms or propose their own. Whatever you agree is recorded with the proposal, so there's no dispute later about who brought the buyer or what they're owed. You pay commission only on deals a partner brings.
Step 6: Get every new partner to a first deal in 30 days
A partner who closes early stays active. A partner who doesn't usually goes quiet. Plan the first month:
- Week 1: a kickoff call, the sales kit and demo access.
- Week 2: a joint call with their most promising prospect.
- Week 3: write the proposal together.
- Week 4: review their pipeline and agree the next three prospects.
Metrics that show it's working
- Active partners: partners who registered at least one lead in the last 90 days.
- Leads per partner and lead-to-deal rate.
- Time to first deal for new partners.
- Partner revenue compared with your direct sales.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Signing many partners and supporting none of them.
- Unclear lead ownership, which leads to disputes.
- A commission too small to change anyone's priorities.
- No sales material, so every partner reinvents the pitch.
- Giving away exclusive territories before a partner has proven they can sell.
Where LicenseSaaS fits
LicenseSaaS is a marketplace for software that's available to license, white-label or resell. When you list your product, agencies and resellers looking for proven software can find it, and approved sales partners can propose to bring you buyers for the commission you set. With Growth Engine Pro or Max, you can also search the partner directory and invite partners yourself. If you're thinking about the partner side, read how SaaS reseller programs work.
Frequently asked questions
How much commission should I offer software resellers?
There is no single right number. Work back from your gross margin and from what it costs you to win a customer directly, and make the rate worth a partner's effort for a typical deal. Write down one rate and one attribution window, then adjust after the first few deals.
What is the difference between a reseller and a referral partner?
A referral partner introduces the buyer, and you close and bill the deal. A reseller sells the product themselves and often bills the customer, earning a margin or a commission on each sale.
Should I give resellers an exclusive territory?
Usually not at the start. Offer exclusivity only after a partner has shown they can close deals in that territory, and tie it to a minimum they need to reach to keep it.
Where can I find resellers for my SaaS for free?
Start with your own customers and the agencies and consultants who already serve your industry, then list your product on a partner marketplace. On LicenseSaaS, listing is free and every listing can receive proposals from approved sales partners.
